Afiq Bin Abu Bakar

Afiq, 21, began his filmmaking journey with a simple interest in starting a YouTube
channel. Through learning to edit his own videos, he discovered a fascination with
what happens behind the screen—the creative and technical processes that come
together before a story reaches an audience. This interest eventually led him to
pursue filmmaking, where he found his passion in sound.

For Nyonya Jo, Afiq worked as the soundman during production, leading the sound
operations on set, including miking up talents and managing on-set audio. During
post-production, he took on the role of sound designer and mixer.

The project came with its challenges, from dealing with frequency and static issues
caused by the filming environment to the pressure of finding the main song featured
in the opening sequence within a short timeline. The team eventually sourced music
from MASDO and the works of P. Ramlee. Being able to use a song from MASDO, a
band he is personally fond of, alongside music associated with P. Ramlee, a highly
respected figure in Malay music, made the process especially meaningful.

Above all, Afiq is proud of his team and their journey from problems to solutions
