Izumo Kawabe

An 18-year-old Japanese film director who grew up in Singapore and now resides in New York, began his filmmaking journey at the young age of nine. With a diverse background that includes working as a storyboard artist and bilingual assistant for renowned Singaporean filmmaker Eric Khoo, he has gained invaluable industry experience. Currently, he is honing his craft by studying film production at New York University. His short film, Mother’s Recipe (2023), earned the Best Short Film award in the U25 category at the Academy-Qualifying Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia. As the founder of the Media Club at XCL World Academy, he not only spearheaded the production of Mother’s Recipe but also guided students in creating their own short films, fostering a collaborative and creative environment for budding filmmakers.
