Jacob Tan is a Singapore-based filmmaker whose works explore the weight of duality in human relationships and the conflicts that arise from clashing perspectives. His films often focus on characters caught between responsibility and desire, reverence and freedom, tradition and change. Through this lens, Jacob seeks to uncover the fragile contradictions at the heart of human connection.
He studied Film, Sound and Video at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, where he developed his foundation in directing and editing, and is currently pursuing a degree at Nanyang Technological University’s School of Art, Design and Media. Over the years, Jacob has directed and edited several short films that have found recognition at international festivals. His short Thanks Ma was screened at the Ivano-Frankivsk International Short Film Festival 4:3 in Ukraine, while his editing work on Girls earned him the Best Editor Award at the Singapore Youth Film Festival by *Scape.
His latest short film, Mashed, continues his exploration of paradoxes within family, faith, and human connection, reflecting his belief that empathy is essential in navigating an increasingly divided world.
