Yanlin is a Singapore-based multidisciplinary filmmaker and creative, born in China, raised in Singapore and educated in London. Her cross-cultural background has shaped a practice that moves between documentary filmmaking, visual storytelling, brand campaigns and experiential creative work.
With a background in media, communication and critical practice, her work often combines personal observation, cultural research and experimental approaches, allowing each project to find the medium that best suits its subject.
Rather than working within a single documentary tradition, Yanlin is drawn to exploring form. Her filmmaking practice has included poetic and performative documentary, and more recently desktop documentary, using screens, digital archives and fragmented media as part of the storytelling process.
Alongside her independent film practice, she has worked across commercial and community projects, creating social-first campaigns, branded visual narratives, videos and experiential activations. Across both commissioned and personal work, she is interested in stories that sit between cultures, identities and places, and in creating work that leaves space for audiences to bring their own memories, interpretations and emotions into the final experience.
