Matthew Gunawan grew up in Singapore and spent his formative years listening to emo music and attending religious school. His artistic interests fluctuate between the comedically absurd and the macabre, influenced by the peculiarities of life within
society, as well as his own experiences growing up queer and strange in Southeast Asia. Our Mother Mary serves as his senior capstone project and first proper foray into cinematic writing, storyboarding and animation. Graduating from Ringling College of Art & Design with honors in May 2026 with a BFA in Computer Animation and minors in Film Studies and Art History, he hopes to provide more unique and fun ideas to the world, whether the world wants it or not.
