I’m Shi Xian, an aspiring producer who aims to help fellow creative minds bring their ideas to life. I discovered my passion for filmmaking through watching comedic Hong Kong films. The Mr Vampire franchise (1987-1992), directed by Ricky Lau, and Shaolin Soccer (2001), directed by Stephen Chow, were staples of my childhood. These films then inspired me to enrol in the course Film, Sound and Video in Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

During my time there, I have produced several films, notably, ‘Ah Ma’ (2022) which won first-runner up in the Lion’s Home Film Competition. This heartwarming focuses on a young woman reflecting on cherished memories of her deceased grandmother while sorting out her belongings. Additionally, a documentary that was recently screened at the Capitol Theatre is ‘Heartland’ (2024). It explores the kampong spirit that Auntie Pearly, a heartland shop owner, has forged with her neighbours at Bishan North Shopping Mall.

As a production intern and later, an associate producer at Tristeps Studios, I helped out in various television commercials for clients like Sony, Steigen and Wells.

After graduating, I decided to pursue other forms of creative expressions in Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI) in Nanyang Technological
University (NTU).
