Pan Wenbo

Wenbo is a Singapore-based student filmmaker whose work explores the intersections of history, politics, and performance. Born in Chengdu, Sichuan, he developed an early fascination with visual storytelling through observing everyday street life.

Before university, he directed no-budget shorts with small teams, one of which won the Most Promising Award at the 2022 National Youth Film Award (NYFA). He continues to create work that blends film, theater, and criticism, often transforming personal and historical trauma into cinematic and theatrical form.

Wenbo engages deeply with political theory and philosophy; his essay on aesthetics and politics won First Prize in the 2022 Chancellor’s Challenge Shield Essay Competition, and as a 2024 mentee of the *SCAPE Film Critics Lab, he collaborates with the Singapore Film Society to produce reviews and critical pieces. He founded the Chinese Film Praxis Group, producing low-budget shorts with a strong political consciousness. The recent film was nominated for Best Screenplay at the 2026 Singapore Youth Film Festival.
