Tan Kai Ting, Cheryl

Tan Kai Ting, Cheryl is a third-year student at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communications and Information in Singapore, specialising in broadcast and filmmaking. She has developed a multidisciplinary skill set through roles such as Director, Director of Photography, Art Director, and Editor, gaining hands-on experience in storytelling, visual composition, and post-production.

Beyond filmmaking, Cheryl has been an avid reader since childhood, particularly
enchanted by Enid Blyton, which nurtured her imagination and sharpened her world-building skills. Combined with her interests in dance, bullet journalling, and travel, this foundation fuels her creativity, helping her craft narratives that are both visually engaging and emotionally resonant. Her favourite genre of films, coming-of-age stories, also informs her work, as she draws inspiration from the intimate portrayal of personal growth, emotional depth, and nuanced character development.

Cheryl’s creative perspective was also recently broadened by her semester exchange at Stuttgart Media University (HdM Stuttgart), where she was exposed to Western art styles and design thinking approaches. This experience broadened her understanding of visual storytelling, inspiring her to experiment with new concepts and challenge conventional approaches to narrative and aesthetics.

Cheryl aims to create work that balances technical skill, artistic expression, and audience connection, establishing herself as a versatile and passionate creator in contemporary media.
